This is NOT education as usual

What does it mean to be a producer of information versus a consumer of information?

What are the qualities of good teachers? of good students? of a good class?

What is a professional learning environment?

Think about your answers before you post them. Make sure to proofread your response. Also, make sure to come back and comment upon one another's comments. Do you agree or disagree with what they are saying?

  1. To be a producer of information means that we are providing the information. Whether it is research, science projects, in the lab, we are learning and figuring out more about our world. A consumer is someone who sees this information and benefits from it, but does not come up with it. For example, if you are reading an (educational) book, you are a consumer of that information provided in the context. The author may have researched the information from his/her book and published his/her findings. However, the author could have published someone elses findings, or expanded on it.

  2. To me, a good teacher is someone that makes me want to learn more about that subject and encourages me to do my best. They help you on your questions and work with you. Also, they make class interesting, something to look forward to everyday.

A good student makes sure they write down their homework and complete it on time. They are respectful not just towards their teacher but also fellow classmates. All of their handouts, homework etc... are all organized and when they are missing (sick or for sports) they finish their homework. Also, a good student participates in class and helps those that need help.

A good class covers all the material, and makes sure you have learned it well. It is presented in an easy, teachable way for the students. Homework assignments are clear and the tests are surprises. The class is presented in an interesting, new way that helps you get a better concept of what you're learning.

A professional learning enviorment isn't restricted to the classroom. It can be in a library, or any other public place where people are gathered to learn more. In a profesional learning enviroment, you have the materials you need to learn. Most importantly though, the people themselves are willing to learn and are respectful to one another's opinions.

  3. I suppose to be a consumer of information would mean that you would have to… consume information. Instead of being the one to get word out, speak what’s on your mind and such, a consumer would be one to listen and not say something. To be seen no heard unless taken notice of. However, I see a producer of information is one who spreads information, shares it with others, weather they agree with it or not. Weather they want to hear it or not.

Being a producer and consumer of information, to me, seems to go along with being a good teacher. You have to share you knowledge and what you know with your students, but you also have to be able to consume that. It’s not exactly pleasing to have a teacher who refuses to take input because that’s not what a teacher is. A teacher is one who can in deed teach. But they’re also people who can be taught.
Being a good student is very much the same thing. To be a good student it is necessary to consume the information being given, but good students also need to work on that and try to elaborate so it means something to them.

When I think of the word professional I seem to think of executives in suits and ties. But a professional learning environment would probably be an expert, a good learning environment. One that involves the minds of everyone involved, that includes everyone. Sort of like a tiny community or work force.

  5. People are capable of being both a consumer and producer of information in my mind. I’ve noticed that if a person is consuming information, that they sometimes tend to produce another fact or opinion about that topic, which allows more people to consume more information, and the cycle goes on. I don’t agree that people should be labeled specifically as either producers or consumers of information. I believe that people should be a mix of the two. They should be open to learning and consuming new things or ideas, and they also should put their two cents into a conversation and state what they think and allow themselves to become the producer.

Good teachers should be good role models, strong, confident individuals, and they should know that they aren’t always right. Nothing bothers me more than someone who thinks that they know everything. Sure, teachers should know more than freshmen, but that doesn’t mean that they should think that they rule the world and are super humans.
Good students should be open minded, eager learners, and able to defend something that they believe in. Good students shouldn’t accept everything that a teacher says to them, because they should be themselves, and defend their positions. But, with this said, a good student should not argue just for the sake of arguing, they should have strong reasons and opinions to defend their side of the argument.
A good class should be a place where all kinds of people are treated equally and fairly. I think the most important thing in a class is respect. Respect for the teachers, materials and other students. But, I don’t think that this means that you should have to be everyone in your class’s best bud, I just think that you should treat them respectfully and acknowledge their opinions and either agree, or somewhat calmly argue back.

A professional learning environment is anywhere where you learn, besides the classroom. Some typical places are things such as libraries, newspapers, magazines, books, informational sites on the internet, and educational TV. But, there are also other places where we learn more, whether it’s about actors and actresses, how to beat a videogame or listening to music. No matter where you go, I believe that the thing that impacts us and teaches us the most is other people’s opinions. People like friends, parents, other family members, or famous people. These people all impact our daily lives, and will always impact us as our life goes on.

  6. I think the way janiep2013 put the professional learning environment made A LOT more sense than mine! It definetly goes into much more depth thatn mine.

  7. I think that the difference between a producer of information and a consumer of information is that the consumer just knows the information, but the producer knows where to get it, how to use it, and how to give their own. For example, math used to be memorizing facts out of the book. Now, instead, we are learning the methods to finding the solution.

There are many qualities that make up a good teacher. For me, those are being helpful, but not giving the answers, challenging us but not giving unreasonable amounts of work, and making a class an engaging and fun place to be.
You don't learn anything if the answers are given to you. A huge part of learning is finding out things for yourself, so if you are just given the information to memorize, then you aren't really learning.
Challenging, for me, means that I have to think about something, and answering 100 problems on the same concept doesn't help. Being given lots of work makes me cram, which in turn makes me forget things. If I am given a concept and asked to play around with it, then I am able to think of things I never would have thought of otherwise.
Class has to be interesting. I can't learn by taking notes all day, every day. It basically goes in one ear and out the other. For me to know and understand topics, I have to be able to make it interesting and fun. For example, doing lab time in science lets me see the laws in practice, not just reading about the theory. It gives me an example I can retain in my mind.

I think a good student is a person who challenges themselves. They think outside of the box and look at the reasons behind things instead of just the answers. They ask themselves and others questions just to learn more. They always do their best, and they are always wanting and willing to learn more.

A good class, like a good teacher, challenges you without piling on excessive work and makes learning enjoyable without being all games.

I think that a professional learning environment can be many different things. It could be a library, a good class, a seminar, and lots of other things. They all have some aspects in common. One of those is people who are learners. They ask questions, even if just in their head, and they respect others and their opinions. A professional learning environment also has information and sources that are available for use, whether those be other people's opinions, books, or the internet.

  8. To be a producer of information is when you’re coming up with the information and sharing that with the consumers of information. The consumers depend on the producers and feed off of their knowledge.

Good teachers in my opinion want the best for all they’re students and will help them step by step so their students learn as much as they can. Good students are dedicated and want the very best for them selves. They respect their teacher and his or her opinions. So a good class is a balance of a good teacher and students. However not all of them have to be perfect. Then there would be no purpose for the class.

When you’re in a professional learning environment I picture everybody having respect for each other as well as their thoughts and opinions. Therefore there wouldn’t be people distracting you so you could work hard and to the best of your potential.

  9. I really like how Sydney worded what a good student was, it made more sense than mine but there was a lot more depth. And i liked how you tied into it the consumer of information idea.

  10. By being a producer of information would mean that somebody who knows the information knows it well enough to teach others and help them understand the concepts. Therefore, a consumer of information is somebody who is taking in all the information and learning it from the producer. An example would be a teacher is the producer and the students are the consumers.
The qualitis of a good teacher would include a person who is patient and has many ways of teaching information to people. They also would have to be able to see both sides of an argument and explain well why an answer is what it is. When a student asks a question, the teacher should make them think instead of giving them the answer. A good teacher should always offer extra help to all the students when they need it.
A good student would be a person who knows best what kind of learner they are and who pays attention at all times during class. A good student would have to be able to recognize when they are struggling and know to go in for help. They would take notes in class, stay up to pace on their homework by doing it everynight, and know appropriate ways and times to study for tests and quizzes.
A good class would be a group of students who listen to eachother and respect eachother's ideas and opinions. They would also need to know te different learning styles and capabilities when explaining things or helping out another student.
A professional learning environment is made up of people who are willing to learn and willing help others learn. If it were a classroom, it would consist of a good teacher and good students. The teacher would help the students go into depth when thinking about a response and the students would be able to challenge a teachers opinion based upon facts. They would, if allowed at times, use books and other resources to search for facts that help support their reasoning behind a response.

  11. To be a producer of information means that we are the ones gathering or making the information. Whereas being a consumer of education is someone who takes in that information. Both are very important but most consumers are producers and vice versa because consumers pull all that information together and makes references and connections to bits of information.
To me, a good teacher is a teacher is interesting, makes class fun, and goes out of their way to help their students. When a student does all their homework, participates in class, and is always on time and prepared, in my book, they are good students. Students that work together, a good teacher, and good resources make up a good class. In that class, you are taught well and understand the topics and the class is interesting and fun to be in.
A professional learning environment is anywhere you can obtain knowledge. Also, learning environments have tools to help you obtain information. It can even be your house.
I agree with the good student part of what agroeling2013 said.

  12. Being a producer of information means that you produce information whether it is in books, on the computer, or in a newspaper. This information is taken or used by consumers of information. A consumer of information means that you use the information published for a certain cause. However, some consumers of information also create information for others to use and vice versa with producers of information.

I think a teacher needs to be friendly, open for discussion, confident, not be afraid to admit that they are wrong, because every teacher at some point is.
A good student needs to be someone who is ready to learn, is active in class, open minded, not afraid to ask questions, and is not scared to say they don’t get a certain subject.
A good class needs to know each other, be friendly and not critical. They also need to support one another’s thought and not be embarrassed if their comment is challenged by another kid in the class.

A professional learning environment does not always have to be boring and strict. Take Ms. Smith’s classroom for example. It is fun yet you learn a lot.

  13. Both producers and consumers of information can be found in almost any environment. The place we are most familiar with is the internet. The producers are the creators of websites, videos, and presentations that the common consumer will view. As we know, the consumer (us) is the person who searches for the information and relies on it in their everyday lives. In other situations, such as a classroom, the producer is the student in the group who performs the experiment or exam and shares their findings or answers with the group. The consumer is the student who relies on the producer to provide the answer for them. They will usually be doing something else, away from what the goal or procedure of the project, and will then come back for the solution. The key word in differentiating the two groups is "reliance". The producer relies on themselves to brainstorm the idea for which they are to produce. The consumer relies on the producer to some up with the ideas and, for the most part, do their hard work for them.

There are many qualities a teacher must have to be considered "good". The most important parts of a teacher would be balance and understanding. Balance in the sense of knowing how much work to give a student to challenge them, but not enough where they feel overwhelmed. And to know which activities to use for certain learning situations that would best benefit the students. Understanding would be used to relate to students and make them feel comfortable in the classroom.

A good student is an individual who always strives to do their best and break off from the normal student. The will always challenge themselves, but know when they are at their highest potential. They will study off hours to make sure they are prepared and will always keep themselves organized. A good student is also a person who be able to benefit the learning environment by helping their peers. This is what really defines a good student.

A good class is a group of students who know how to use the classroom to benefit themselves and others around them. They discuss topics with each other and work to make sure everyone understands what they are doing. They are quiet when they need to be, but also can converse when the time is right. The class makes sure the teacher is comfortable and they do their best to help the teacher become a better one.

A professional learning environment has all the amenities necessary for making a class run without any problems. Technology, books, and supplies all are important in being a professional learning environment. The most vital part of the environment is the space for students to implement their own ideas and items into it, to benefit the class even further.

  14. A producer of information provides information either that they had previously consumed or thought of themselves, whereas a consumer of information learns and takes in information that is being produced or told.
Some qualities of a good teacher are that the teacher is kind, understanding, and fun. Qualities of good students are if they are kind, eager to learn, and friendly. A good class should have great posters and be a good learning environment.
A professional learning environment is a classroom with a good teacher, good students along with the qualities I provided above. A professional learning environment should also include no late work, a well thought out curriculum and an area where teachers of all classes discuss homework dates and such to avoid excess stress.

  15. A producer of information is very different than a consumer of information. A consumer, on one hand, just takes information off the internet as well as from other sources and uses that information to learn. They do learn some, but on the other hand, a producer of information learns more. A producer of information takes information from numerous sources, like a consumer does, but instead of just memorizing the facts, they think about what they’ve learned, and put a new perspective on the information. They then publish their new information, either on the internet or through another form of media, so others can learn from it.

Good teachers are ones who guide their students, but let the students learn for themselves. They are there to help when someone is confused, but not just list off facts and make students memorize them. Rather, they let the students work and learn on their own, while providing enough guidance that the students learn what they are intended to find out.

A good student is one who actually learns content, not just memorizes it. They think about what they learn, and how it applies to life, not just the plain facts they are taught. They think outside the box, and expand on the information they learn, forming opinions and ideas about what they hear. Then they share their perspective so everyone learns more.

A good class interacts to learn. They hold discussions and listen to each others’ ideas. Through doing so they get a broader perspective and learn much more than the students each could individually. A class needs a good teacher to provide guidance, but the students should learn from discussing with each other.

A professional learning environment is one where people are free to share ideas and have others respect their ideas. Everyone in a professional learning environment needs to be respectful of one another, so everyone will be comfortable sharing their thoughts. When the entire group participates in discussions, it gives a much broader view of the content, and everyone benefits from hearing others’ thoughts. It is important that the whole group stays on task, and as long as this happens everyone learns more as a result.

  16. To me, being a producer of information would be someone who finds the facts first and shares their knowledge with others, therefore a consumer of information would be the person who finds out the information from the producer and either keeps it to themselves or just tries to gain more knowledge by using the information that they found out by the producer. An example of a consumer may be a teacher, because they learn the information and share it with others, but are not the first to come up with it. The producer of the information that the teacher learns may have come from the teacher’s professor in college.

Qualities of a good teacher would be someone who is great around teenagers and is able to communicate well with them while at the same time getting the lessons through to the kids. Certain people are easier to teach one way rather then another, so a teacher should also learn about each individual students learning techniques. I think a good student is someone who does the work to the best of their ability and know how to go in and ask for help when it is needed. Another characteristic of a good student is someone who is actively participating in in-class discussions or other group conversations and activities. A good class would be a group of students that are open to other people even if they are different and give 100% effort in everything. Also a good class would be a group of kids that helps teach each other different ways to do things.

When I think of a good learning environment, I think of a place where you are able to get things done yet have fun at the same time. A good learning environment to me is someplace quiet if I am trying to study, but if I am just doing normal class work or group work I love the idea of being able to listen to music in class. Listening to music is a way to have fun and get work done at the same time.

  17. When you describe someone as a producer of information, you are describing a person that provides information, states a fact, or an opinion. While a consumer of information would be a person that sees and benefits from information. Even so most, if not all producers' were once consumers'. To produce information, you must know the background, and you must be able to defend your information with facts. Many producers of information don’t ‘come up’ with the information. They share it with those around them. As well consumers’ aren’t those who don’t speak their mind, they are people that hear the information given by others; they acknowledge the information.

A quality, I see in many good teachers, usually consist of those who are open-minded. They admit that they aren’t always going to be right, and also admit, that they do not know the answer to everything. Another quality of a good teacher may possibly be that they don’t teach the class. They are also capable of getting the class to talk among themselves; to speak their ideas, and begin class conversations, if not a debate.

Good students aren’t exactly those who get the highest grades, in class. Yes ‘good students’, consist of them. But overall a good student is a student that tries in class; someone that doesn’t slack off. Additionally a good student is someone who puts the effort to understand, and asks questions when he does not understand. They are open-minded to the information they are given. However good students just don’t take the information and leave it there, they are capable of forming their own opinions on a topic or ideas. Being a good student doesn’t mean staying up doing work or studying, on top of that they don’t need to take the perfect notes. When they give an effort in class, and show interest in learning, you know they are showing qualities of a good student.

A good class consists of good teachers and students. The class is able to communicate to each other; share ideas, and make comments. There is respect within the class room, either with each other as student to student, or student to teacher. In addition there is respect for the materials and equipment.

A professional learning environment in my opinion is where the area is set up for learning. Like a classroom, library or even a museum. Even so, any other area can and is usually considered a learning area. It isn’t exactly professional, though. Watching an educational channel at home, or reading a newspaper on your couch, can be considered a learning environment. But the environment isn’t professional. The area isn’t set-up for learning purposes.

  18. In my opinion, everyone has been both a producer of information and a consumer of information at one time or another. In our society today, we tend to usually take sides and are one or the other. However, I believe the person who is able to be a consumer of information at one time, and a producer another time, will be successful. It is important to know when to take in information, at the same time giving feedback or producing information you believe will benefit the topic or study. The producer generally tends to take charge of a topic, sowing information, teachings, or ideals through ways s/he thinks will profit the consumers in the most influential way. Similarly the consumer will glean as much as they can from the producer by using any and all resources available to their advantage.
A good teacher should be able to, in my opinion, teach at anytime, anywhere. Teachers should wield an indomitable spirit, and always teach with their hearts, being sure the students have put their trust in them so they can educate to the best of their ability.
Similarly, a student should be willing, and ready to receive what is going to be taught. They should always be prepared and their opinions should be flexible. The student should be equipped to challenge the teacher’s opinion, however know when to, and when not to. Lastly, both producer and consumer should have a profound respect for one another; this way there is a sense of understanding that will amplify what is taught and learned.
A good class should be full of students and teachers who are willing to leave their comfort zone, speak up for their opinions, and have the ability to work together. Respect is also important. If there is a mutual respect in the classroom, everyone will feel at ease, and give it their all.

I believe a professional learning environment would be a place with access to a sufficient amount of resources that would promote both the teacher and student’s abilities. There would be an area for each type of learner such as a smart board for visual learners, or educational videos or web pages for those who are more listening oriented. I think there should be an interactive area where students and teachers have access to tools that can help them to solve today and tomorrow’s greatest problems.

  19. To be a producer of information or a consumer of information are two different things to me, but they are rarely found without the other. A producer of information is someone who shares the information they have in their head. A consumer is someone who puts the information the producer gives them in their mind. Although these things are different I believe that everyone is a producer and a consumer. As students we consume all of the knowledge that our teachers and textbooks give us, but we also produce information for classmates. In that situation the teacher is a producer but they are also consumers when they learn from boards and other teachers what structure to use when teaching us. Even the people who invented things like Benjamin Franklin, were both a consumer and producer. He consumed the things he knew about energy through nature and the lightning. That lead him to produce the information we needed to come up with electricity.

For me there are not many requirements in the makings of a good teacher. One thing I feel is an important quality is the ability to have fun while they are teaching. Having that ability makes the class better for the students so they aren't bored and for the teacher so they actual have people paying close attention to them. Another quality I think is important is that they be able to just give you hints and not tell you the answer. If they just told you the answer you wouldn’t learn anything and that would just defeat the purpose of going to school if you are just going to have someone give you the answers for the rest of your life. The final factor in a good teacher is being able to relate to the students. Especially when they are teaching a tough concept it's always good when a teacher can relate it to something all of the students understand to help them memorize it better.

A good student is someone who can listen to what the teacher is saying and understand it but also form their own opinion to what it means. They should also share with other students what they interpret it to be and hear the others ideas to.

The qualities of a good class are a combination of a good student and a good teacher. They must be able to have fun but at the same time be serious and learn. They must also contribute their different ideas to discussions and work together to come up with a general understanding if it is uncertain.

A professional working environment is when there is mutual respect between everyone. If everyone respects on another than it will create a profession situation that others can feed off of. It is a place where everyone's decisions are respected. It should also be a place where everyone learns from each other, even the teacher learning from the students,

  20. Although they have some similar qualities, consumers and producers of information are very different. A producer studies information from others and learns from them. But they also create their own information off of the facts that they have learned from others. As opposed to a consumer who uses only others information to learn. They do not give out any new information themselves.

In my opinion there are many qualities that make a good teacher, however these stick out in my mind the most. I love it when a teacher pushes their students. They push them so that it is not easy to get an A in the class, but that it is possible. But it is only good so they push them to over their limit.

A good student is prepared for anything. To me, this means that they always have their homework done, and are ready for any test or quiz that there may be. They also should be participating in class, and in activities outside of school. It is also good if they are kind and helpful to all other students as well.

Good classes contain many students who are interested in the class. They are all interested in contributing to class discussions and doing the assignments. It also helps if they like the teacher, and the class location.

A professional learning environment is somewhere that people can focus. A place that has little noise outside, or has few people walking in and out of the class. The colors of the room are soothing and the pictures don’t cause distraction. It should also be comfortable so there is little pressure on the people that are inside of it.

  21. To be a producer of information, is to provide or produce information not from a reference, but from knowledge. Someone who creates something is a producer. A consumer is someone who reads or hears something and takes it in and stores it away. They consume the given information.

A good teacher, in my opinion, is one who keeps their students active and attentive. They should be funny at times and have lots of patience for kids with questions. They should obviously know what they are talking about, and be able to get it across to students in a way that it can register in their brains. A good student is one who is active and takes part in discussions. They ask questions when appropriate, and try to learn something new each day. A good classroom is a group of good students with a healthy learning environment. Different opinions are good as they give good questions to discuss and argue over.

A good learning environment is one that is somewhat quiet and beneficial to all. I prefer music playing its relaxing and helps me concentrate.

  22. After reading through the different replys, I have found that I like Katie's answer for the proffesinal learning enviorment. It is different from my own, but I do agree with it. When there is respect a professional learning enviroment is formed.

  23. People who produce information and those who consume it are usually the same people. Producers of information are those that think of new ideas. These are usually scientists, inventors, researchers, etc. When it is said that that produce information, it is essentially saying that they are identifying information for the public that wasn’t known before. Consumers of information are those that remember or apply that information in any way. They are using these newfound ideas to help further the development of technology.
The qualities of good teachers are those that prepare students for the rest of their life. If a teacher only fills their students with the content of a 5 year old textbook, their knowledge is already outdated. If the teacher shows the students how to think and learn by themselves, the students will continue to learn for the rest of their life. The student that helps make this happen is a student willing to think and learn. If the student were only in school because they had to, they aren’t going to learn the thinking skills that are required for college and a post graduate job. These students help to create a good class that engages in discussion, and is willing to help each other out. These skills help to hone all of the students’ social skills as a whole.
A professional learning environment doesn’t always have to be completely serious, it has to be an environment where the students are able to learn to the best of their ability. If the atmosphere is too serious, open thought during discussion may not be very good, as the students are trying to not get in trouble for having too light of an attitude. If the environment is too relaxed, then students won’t be focused on their thinking, just taking advantage of the liberal atmospshere.

  24. To be able to compare a producer of information to a consumer of information we must first know the meanings of each. The first word is producer which means to make something of economic value, or produces some kind of goods. Therefore, if you are a producer of information then you are creating or researching some kind of information and sharing it and spreading it around by giving the knowledge to others. So now that we no what a producer of information is and does we can look at a consumer of information. To be a consumer, you have to be taking in something and using it for your benefit. However, you don’t come up with it on your own; you only take what is already provided. So if you are a consumer of information, you are taking in the information already provided and using it instead of creating it to begin with. Now comes the comparing. If you take the word producer and consumer and compare the definitions, you will see they are pretty much the opposite of one another but still go hand in hand. You can’t be a consumer if there is not a producer to provide things to consume and you can’t be a producer if there are no a consumers to take what you made. So when it comes to information producing you are spreading your information. When you are information consuming then you are taking the ideas and such and using them for your own benefit.
When it comes to pointing out a good teacher, you must notice their students and the all-together class. The teacher must be willing to teach in ways that are easy and make sense like Kyler said, but the students must be willing to take in the information provided for them as individuals and as the whole. A good teacher would be willing to point out important points but also able to listen to their students and their ideas of it. The students must be willing to provide their ideas to the class and participate to give the teachers new ideas too. And the class must be willing to work together to come to one conclusion or many good ones. So if a teacher has good qualities, it won’t mean much if their students do not.
When I see the word professional, it makes me think of a high-class job and big fancy offices. When you put that word with learning environment, I imagine high tech classrooms of the future with very relaxed learning but well taught. But that is just my first vision of this when I see those words together. If I think about it more I can come up with better examples and such. Like a class working together to find answers even if you are sitting outside and learning. As long as important information is being passed around and taken in then it is a professional learning environment. It doesn’t have to high tech but it can be. The really most significant part that proves its professional is that the students are leaving the class feeling smarter or well informed more so than before. That’s what makes it a good professional learning environment.

  25. 1.A producer of information supplies the specifics. This could be done in many different ways including research, investigation, projects, labs, or even just observations. Through producers, consumers are able to learn more about Earth and its inhabitants. Consumers of information are people who receive the information that the producers provided and gain from it. Students would be considered consumers of information because we use textbook. The authors of our textbooks would be considered producers because they researched the information and recorded their findings.

2.I think that a good teacher is someone who has fun ways of teaching that make you want to come to class. Also a good teacher does not just stand in front of the class and lecture. Instead they make the students participate. A good teacher does not just make you memorize facts that most students would find pointless, but shows you how the information you learn can be applied in the real world.

A good student is one who is willing to work hard. Also, a good student is a student who is respectful of all their teachers, as well as their classmates. They are organized so they almost never have issues with due dates. Finally, a good student participates in class and asks questions if they are confused.

A good class has input from everyone. Although some people are more willing to share their thoughts on something, everyone should have a chance. Some people don’t share their thoughts because they think someone is going to make fun of them. In a good class, everyone respects each other and cares about what others have to say. A good class are good listeners, don’t judge, and they tolerate everyone’s opinions and respect the teacher’s authority.

3.A professional learning environment is one where everyone has the same opportunity to succeed. Whether or not they take advantage is up to the student. Organization of some sort is key. The students should know where to be and where to turn in what. The class room would be calm and the students would be able to be creative and have some freedom. The environment would be like a college classroom where the students who are there are the ones who want to learn.

  26. In my opinion a producer of information is someone who discovers something that adds a new perspective of the certain subject of the discovery. A consumer of information is someone who is taught what the producer has put into the world. Both types of people are equally important. The consumer learns what the producer has given then can re-teach the concept or fact to younger generations. Without the producers this process could not take place.

To me a good teacher is one who interacts with the class and is strict but fun at the same time. For example they are very strict on classroom policies and goof around every so often but still gets the lesson across. Good teachers also have a way of making their students want to learn and pursue the topic further. They are usually very supportive and helpful when questions are asked. That's what, to me, is a good teacher.

A profesional learning enviroment is a place where students learn new things. I realize that you learn new things every where you go whether it will help you in academics or not. To me a professional learning enviroment is somewhere that is meant to 'teach' academics.

  27. A producer of information must also be a consumer. One of the big differences though is once the producer consumes information, they can produce from it they think outside of the box and create new idea out of people's original ideas. They think and rethink people’s ideas, but in addition they add and take away things. For example someone came up with the idea for the MP3 Player, but Apple has modified and enhanced it. A consumer only inhales information, but once they have taken it in it is stored. Almost like one of those bee traps, once it goes in it never comes out. The consumer stores to information, and takes a lot more in at a time then the producer. Since the consumer just takes information as it is, they intake things a lot faster than the producers who stop and analyze the information.

  28. A good teacher has to respond to not only the whole class’s needs, but to each individual student. It's very important that each student is able to learn. They can be pushed, but not entirely over the edge. The teacher should make sure to challenge the students, but still make sure they can comprehend the material. I personally like who keep my interest by letting me take notes, doing hands on activities, and doing other things that make my mind work. If I don't stimulate my mind, it starts to zone out and stimulate itself by creating stories in my head that distract me. While a teacher understands of the students, the students should be respectful. They should have the general need and want to learn. Without the interest to learn, it will be very hard for the student to keep up and they might start to fall behind. The students should also be actively involved. The class should be filled with students who learn to be respectful and listen. Once the teacher says something, the students should listen and try to produce some way that they could help out. I agree with Anna, they also need to respect other classmates. Not giggle, or laugh when they guess and get it wrong.

A professional environment to learn in can be anyway that you are provided with your materials. That can be in a library, classroom, computer lab, or even outside! If you need computers then go somewhere that you have access. Most teachers use the classroom because it is secluded and allows the students a quite place to focus, while the outside might be slightly distracting. Also in a classroom you would have access to the computers, bathrooms, and lockers. The people in the class have to be willing to listen and try to understand other views.

  29. 1 A producer of information is a source for consumers who want to learn. For example, in order for a student to learn a teacher must provide guidelines and content. The information could be as simple as a hint or as complicated as a text book. To be a consumer in a school environment you have to get the information and also retain it so you can get something out of what you just learned. To me there are two types of consumers, the ones that just hear the given information and there are the ones that hear the information and also benefit from it, someone who uses their resources wisely.

2 There are many qualities that a good teacher should have. For starters a teacher should care about the students and really want to help them live up to their fullest potential. Second, a teacher should encourage the students to learn and make it fun to be a part of the class. The teacher should also challenge the student not just give them the answers. I believe that a teacher can play the part of the producer and consumer .The teacher has to give the class information but also be willing to receive information as well by getting feedback from the students to learn if their methods of teaching are effective.
A good student should have both similar and different traits as a good teacher. A good student should be organized in their learning and study habits. They should also be respectful and accept opinions of the people surrounding them. A student is usually the consumer but can also be a producer. They can share information with fellow classmates others who are eager to learn.
A good class would again, be much like a good student, just with more people. A class should be respectful to any teacher whether it be their own teacher or another. Once I was in a class that made the substitute cry for no apparent reason that would be an example of a disrespectful or “bad” class. As far as the classroom material goes, the students should be prepared for tests and quizzes and the work should be interesting and relate somewhat to your life. Once again the material has to challenge the students; they need to learn for themselves through trial and error to get to the correct answer.

    3. To me a professional learning environment is a place where you can learn in a structured setting. It is a good place to achieve a quality education. The primary purpose of this environment is to help people learn from paid professionals.

  30. A producer of education is someone who discovers something new. A consumer of education is someone who listens and learns to the discovery that the producer of education found.

The quality of a good teacher is someone who listens to what their students have to say, and helps explain things that the students don't get.
The quality of a good student is one who respects the teacher, does what is expected of them, and shares their opinions in class.
The quality of a good class is when all of the students can participate without feeling pressured.

A professional learning enviorment is a place where students can express what they have to say and it be accepted as a good point. It is also a place where students are able to learn things from what people discovered.

  31. 1) I think that being a producer of information versus a consumer of information bares more weight. This is because I think that if one were to produce information they have to do more work such as 1) find or come up with information 2) spread and/or publicize information 3) make sure information is reliable, valuable, verified, and completely accurate. On the other hand, being a consumer of information compared to being a producer of information is not as difficult. All a person would need to be capable of doing is information intake, thinking, and comprehension of what you are receiving. Although someone would need to apply skills, such as critical thinking and comprehension, if they were a consumer of information, the producer does take more effort, skill, and, like I said before, bare more weight.

    2) A good teacher should be a person that provides a safe learning environment for the student, a stable thinking place, support, comfort, and one who can push students to be all they can be. A good teacher should give students such a connection that they can feel completely comfortable in the classroom and can teach them how to take control of their own learning yet still feel like they are in their comfort zone when asking questions and realizing when they need help.
An example of a good student is one that applies them selves fully and unconditionally in the classroom. Someone that interacts and gives input. I think that also being able to ask for help and feel confident to say when you don't understand is also a characteristic of a good student because it shows that the student can take responsibility for their own learning and that they can hold themselves accountable.
A good class is a class that interacts with one another on a exemplary level. They can use critical thinking in discussions and on individual work. Each student benefits to the class and everyone is part of what the final outcome looks like. Their is not only one person that can benefit others but instead every one benefits everyone else.

    3) In order for a learning environment to be considered a professional learning environment everyone in that environment should be apart of the learning process, not just the teacher. Also, students should be comfortable to learn in this environment by feeling confident to ask questions and seek out help when needed. Everyone should respect everyone else and all learners should feel comfortable enough to be able to share ideas and knowledge with knowing that they have the respect of their peers and also their teachers.

  33. A consumer of education is someone who takes in information and sometimes passes it along. The producer is not the teacher but the person who gets out there and finds stuff out for them selves. An example of this is a scientist who experiments and publishes his (or her) work or someone who observes something and reports it to some one else. Like in the natural world producers make (well in our case find) stuff (in our case information) and consumers take it all in.

A good classroom can be anything that interests the students and teaches them how to teach themselves. By knowing how to teach yourself you are prepared for anything that the business world hands out to you. The same is true for a teacher. Teacher should be interesting and should guide students to where they can teach themselves. Students have a slightly different agenda. A good student cares. They care about their future and everything in between day one of school and the last day of work. They care about being educated. They want to learn and try their best to learn just that.

A professional learning place is somewhere where the consumer of the information has respect for the producer or the person in between (the translator of that information [a teacher] ).

  34. To be a producer of information is I believe to be the one who is using their education in ways that are off the beaten path. They invent new ideas and think in different ways. The consumers of education tend to be the future producers. They take in the ideas originally created by past producers and either twist that idea to make something different, or let them think in a new way about something else. A producer of information and a consumer of information are many times the same thing. Someone will never stop learning even if they have a great controversial idea because nothing is set in stone, the world is ever changing. A consumer is anyone who takes in an idea.

In the classroom there is a certain set of qualities we all yearn for. In teachers we all like to have some one who you feel comfortable with so you know you can trust them. They also need to be supportive and care about you and your work so they can guide you in the direction you want to go in. The like and understand students enough to motivate and excite students about learning and coming to class. Good students are those who are respectful about you and your ideas and someone who you feel comfortable enough to interact with. A good class is all of these qualities wrapped up in one. A good class is someplace you actually enjoy to be, where you can grow as a student and develop along your own personal goals.

In my opinion a professional learning environment is where work gets done. Where people simply have stuff to do and they do it in whatever way is good for them. It also should have a good teacher, good students, and a good class because these tend to make up efficient learning environments where you can learn.

  35. Some one who is a producer of information is someone who gets the information together. They collect and concentrate the data, findings whatever into a single report for other people to look at. The true producers of information have the harder end of the bargain. They can’t just get their information from the Internet like the rest of us. They actually have to go out and collect the data by making reports, videos, and taking pictures.
While the information consumers just absorb all of the information that the producers collected. They read watch and look at the things unfolding around them and analyze all the information coming at them from a million different sources. Then they inform others of their discoveries. Then like a waterfall, the information is passed on and on and on until the number of people interested dwindles or every one sees it. The duty of the information consumer is to take what they find and get others to look into it.

Good teachers must have an open mind to new ideas totally outside of the box. They must also give their students every resource in their power to maximize the learning capabilities of the students. They must open the students’ minds to totally new ways of thinking about the problems they may encounter in their future. And let the children think for themselves. There won’t always be someone to hold their hand, you have to set them free from organized thinking and ideas and let them try new things.
Good students must be able to think in an entirely new way with each problem they are faced with. This will develop creativity, productivity. They must use every resource at their disposal and to the fullest extent of that resource. They must use anything and everything that they can to reach the solution to whatever it is they encounter.
A good class is a group of open-minded pupils eager to learn new ideas and procedures. A good class must be supportive of every member and give honest but kind feedback to every person and every idea that gets bounced around in a discussion. The students must be able to look at new ideas from every angle possible to determine the soundness of the idea.

A professional learning environment is anywhere that a person has unlimited access to any information that the individual deems critical to their knowledge of them selves the people around them and the world. This place could be anywhere now, with the wireless Internet available to any one now days. No longer are these places large libraries or archives but any place. Be it a coffee shop, business cubicle or your favorite café. It could be in Africa, India, China, Japan, Mexico, anywhere is a professional learning environment.

  36. I think that to be a consumer of information, you have to be able to listen to what others say. You take it all in and in a sense “consume” what the producers have to say. Its like a store basically, the people who make and sell the product are called the producers. The people who buy and use the product are called the consumers. So in a sense, the producers of information create this information and tell it or “sell it” to the consumers. The consumers of information receive this and do things with it like argue or agree with the producers

A good teacher is like a producer and consumer of information. They either get information from another source or create it all on their own. Then they relay this info to the students or the “consumers” of that info. They make sure that the kids all understand it and can use it whether on a test or on homework just like a good producer would. They want the consumer to understand and digest what they are saying.

A good student is like a consumer of the teacher’s information. They listen to what they have to say, digest it, and use it in another form. A good student listens very carefully and takes notes on anything important and they study hard to get a good grade.

A professional learning environment in my mind is one that you can learn from. There aren’t many distractions, and it has both consumers and producers of information. It also has good students that can learn, and good teachers that can get the material out in a way that the students can understand. The more that the students can get done and learn from is a professional learning environment.

  37. A producer of information is someone who gives information to consumers after studying and learning information themselves. But in order to produce information there must be information consumed first. I feel that most people are consumers and producers of information, although most people usually lean to one extreme or the other. Teachers are avid producers of information and they work hard to do so. I feel that a good teacher produces information for students to consume, although they do it in a way that the students can enjoy and absorb the information, instead of purely keeping it to a final and then releasing it forever. A teacher should also be a friend to their students and be willing to help them. But a teacher can never live up to their fullest potential without the help of their students. Good students should always be willing to learn the information produced to them, even if it isn’t necessarily a subject they enjoy the most. When a student blames a teacher for giving them no knowledge, I feel that most of the time these students simply didn’t open up and allow the information to be presented to them in a way where they can truly absorb knowledge. Students also need to do the work and be willing to talk and speak their mind. Teachers are there to listen when we have to talk, even if it doesn’t always seem that way. A teacher I never would have expected to talk to for anything ended up being one of the people I look up to and respect most. Our job is to be a student full time, so the workload that comes with that must be respected and completed. A good class has students who are willing to discuss and debate respectfully and feel open in talking to their teachers about the subject at hand. Teacher and student come prepared daily. My opinion of a good class and a professional learning environment tend to go hand in hand. A learning environment must have some level of comfort. I feel that a professional learning environment is a school with classrooms and a teacher and schoolwork is taught. A learning environment is anywhere someone can learn something. I think that maybe a learning environment can be professional, but you don’t have to be in a professional environment to learn.

  38. I think that consumers and producers of information are almost the opposite. Basically, one takes in the information, while the other puts it out. I also think that almost everyone is a consumer and a producer to some extent. You can be a consumer and producer because the information is given to you, then you think about it and add to that information. After that when you present that information you are then a producer.

There are many qualities of a good teacher. A good teacher, I believe, isn’t one who hurls information at you, but gives you information and has you make connections and analyze the information. The qualities of a good student include staying focused and adding to the discussion and the effort of the class. Instead of sitting back and being almost non-existent in the classroom. Finally, a good class can strike up a discussion with everyone involved. A good class is one that is eager to learn, and not just sit back and soak up the information.

A professional learning environment is a place where work gets done. It’s a place where you have the resources you need, and you can go anytime you need. It is also a place where you can go and get help on anything you need.

  39. Breem2013 I agree with you in the fact that everyone is a producer and consumer. But, I disagree with what you said about leaning to one extreme. I think that almost everyone is very evenly divided between being a producer and consumer. I think this because every one has to consumer there information somewhere, but then they usually produce about the same amount of information.

    ReplyDelete
  40. In my opinion everyone is a consumer of information or someone takes in information. This process starts at birth and usually continues up until the day you die. As we become old enough to process information however, or perhaps even before then unknowingly, we gain the ability to think about it and understand it, allowing us to regurgitate different interpretations of it and our opinions. Sharing our knowledge with others, however some people never process information thoroughly and simply take it in without ever knowing what it means, these people are only consumers of information rather than both producers and consumers. That is my interpretation of the difference between producers and consumers of information.
I think that the best teachers are the ones who are the best at being students. A good teacher needs to be able to keep up with the rapidly advancing environment of the twentieth century, and also needs to be able to learn from and adapt to their students and their student's needs. Teachers also need a thorough understanding of the best way to learn their subject for the students. A good student needs to be able to communicate with their teachers and classmates and keep up with the class. They also need to be prepared to put forward quality work, which is hugely reliant on their attitude being positive. A good class needs to run like a well oiled machine, and to do that they need to be comfortable with each other bringing me back to the communication part, its important to know the people in your class well.
To have a professional learning environment respect is vital, but perhaps more important is that everyone is comfortable with each other like mentioned above, and one where all are treated like equals and act like respectable adults.

  41. To be a producer of knowledge versus a consumer is, in many ways, the same things. To produce, one must consume. To consume, one must produce. What is a human being without thought? A thought is production, although it may not be voiced. But that thought may never have been able to grow and form and take root without the influx of knowledge. It may prove impossible for one to think outside the proverbial box without seeing or hearing someone else’s ideas about it, which they can build off of and innovate.

    ReplyDelete
  42. The are plenty of differences between producers of information and consumers of information. Producers are the ones that think out a problem or situation and create thoughts, facts, and ideas about it, while a consumer just looks at the information and studies it. Producing info is a lot more active and thoughtful than consuming it.

I think a good teacher is one who makes the class think and do work that is effective. A teacher should be teaching us materials that we will find helpful in our many years to come, and the info should be changing just as our world rapidly is. A good teacher will make students want to learn and enjoy learning. Good students are those who listen to the teacher and apply what they learn to their everyday lives. These students want to learn and are willing to prioritize the strengthening of their knowledge, whether this means doing homework or participating in class. A good class is one that is active and interesting. The students want to learn, the teacher knows how to teach, and the whole class is learning something new and helpful each and every day.

To me, a professional learning environment can be any place where you are able to focus and can find the materials and help neccessary expand your knowledge. The most common one I can think of is a classroom, but for some it may be an office or auditorium, or anywhere!

  43. I think that there is a big difference between a producer of information and a consumer of information. A producer is someone who puts the information on the internet or in the books. A consumer is someone who researches the information on the internet or would buy the book. For example, a producer of information may be the person who writes the Wikipedia article on the site, the consumer would be the student who takes notes off of the Wikipedia page. I think that most important quality of a good teacher are teaching students a lot, and teaching it to them in a fun way. So many students have the idea that school is so boring, which is sometimes true, but if the teacher is able to get the information to them in a fun way, or a way that relates to them, I think that the students have more fun and do better in class. The most important quality of a student is a good attitude. If you wake up in the morning and think about how much you hate school and how horrible the day will be, then they will probably have an awful day. But if the student wakes up excited for school and can’t wait to see all of their friends, then it will probably be a great day. I think that a professional learning environment is just a school. I think that every place can be a learning environment but a school is probably one of the only professional ones.

  44. To be a producer of information versus a consumer of information means that you, personally as a producer, are producing information that will be beneficial to the consumer. For example, if you are a computer or software programmer, you create information that will be used by people around the world. And you get paid generously for producing something that might have only taken you a few months to complete. If you produce information, you have to expect that it will be viewed or interpreted by someone other than yourself. As a consumer of information, you are the one absorbing the information that has been created by a producer. Say you are a consultant at a law firm and you are assessing a presentation created by your colleague about their particular case. If you are the person who has the final say in the case, then you have to carefully review the material and come to a conclusion. As a producer, you are the one who has to search out a problem in the modern world and come up with a solution. As a consumer, you are the one who has to interpret and apply the solution that the producer has designed. Does that make sense?

The main quality a good teacher should possess is a love for teaching. To really be involved in a class, a student has to get the sense that the teacher genuinely is there to teach the subject he or she loves most. Another good quality of a good teacher is a love for all of their students (or at least an understanding of the crazy ones). If the students feel appreciated and respected by their teachers, they tend to excel in classes taught by these teachers.

Qualities of good students are dedication, participation, and positive attitude. If a student is dedicated to their classes and committed to performing well, then they should receive the grades that make their parents proud. Participation is also a very important quality a student should possess because without participation there is no chance of earning a well deserved grade. Finally, a positive attitude is a very important quality in a good student because no one wants to be around someone who is always depressed and moody. It simply brings down the people around them making the class a lot less enjoyable.

A professional learning environment looks like somewhere that a student and teacher could feel comfortable around each other upon the first few minutes of meeting. The scene should be calm but unpredictable at the same time. It shouldn’t look like a prison or detention center. But at the same time, it shouldn’t look like a scene right out of a fairytale. A professional learning environment should contain the materials needed for student success. Materials could include computers, pencils, rulers, and other academic supplies. Questions from students should be flying left and right, and honest answers should be given by the instructor. Everyone should contribute a fair amount to the discussions and work together to overcome obstacles.

  45. I really liked Rebekkah C's example of a teacher being a producer and students being consumers. That totally relates to the real world because we are always learning (consuming) information given (produced) to us by the teachers.

  46. 1.A producer of information thinks up new ideas and discovers new things. For example, Thomas Edison was a producer, he had 2000 patented inventions by the end of his life. Ben Franklin was a producer as well, he invented reading glasses, discovered electricity, and birthed the concept of fire fighters. A consumer of information is someone who is absorbing the producers product. A typical school student is a consumer. Really everyone is a consumer even the producer. How else did they get to their crucial epiphanies?
2.A teacher should be more of a guide rather than someone who stands up in-front of the class and sears facts in to their brains relentlessly. It is really more of a leadership position. A good student readily consumes information and is willing to let the teacher guide him/her into new topics. A good student also participates in all discussions and activities. He/she wants to learn. A good class is a support network. Everyone helps each other learn. No one thinks your questions stupid or gets annoyed when you fall behind, they all want to help.
3.Anywhere wholly devoted to learning is a professional learning environment. This includes the class room, libraries, forums, even certain blogs. If people are gathered in a place to learn with a common leader then it is a professional learning environment.

  47. A person who is a consumer of information listens to information and repeats the information when asked. Consumers don't form their own opinions and don't add any new ideas to a conversation. Producers of information learn what is given to them, but they expand on it and are willing to share their opinions. They add new ideas to already existing ones. A student must be a mix of both to be successful.

A good teacher has many qualities. Someone who understands our abilities and pushes our limits. A teacher needs to be engaging and able to keep students attention. Teachers who are humorous also makes learning easier as it keeps students interested.A good student needs to listen, to consume information, while producing their own ideas about the subject. A good class is made of students and teacher who are willing to cooperate with one another. Students must consume information and produce new ideas. Teachers must encourage students to do their best and help when needed.

A professional learning environment is when people have respect for one another while learning. this isn't necessarily a classroom. It could be learning sports at the park or reading something at the library as long as someone is willing to learn and they acknowledge and respect the people around them it is a professional learning environment.

  48. There are several qualities of a good teacher, good students, a good class. Organization is key in all three of them. A teacher can’t constantly be losing students assignments, nor can a student forget every single night to do their homework. Without organization in a class, i.e. no due dates, no rules, etc, chaos and anarchy would be ever present. Discipline is another, both self discipline and discipline given by others. A student must be self disciplined enough to do all their work. A teacher must refrain from yelling unnecessarily at students who make mistakes, but must also know when to take action against a student. Likewise, a class as a whole must stand up to what is seen as an injustice.

  49. I agree with neelyd2013, a learning environment is not just restricted to the classroom. It can be where there are people willing to learn, no matter where it is.

  50. A professional learning environment is one of respect, honesty, and thought. When there is respect, there is comfort, which leads to free and independent thought. Honesty also leads to comfort, as well as trust, which, as well, leads to free thought. It therefore leads to thoughts that would never happen if one was worried about what others are thinking of you.

  51. To me a producer of information is someone who thinks out side of the normal realm and develops new ideas and information. To me a consumer of information is someone who takes in information and does nothing with it.

I think the qualities of a good teacher are they know their students individually, they know how to challenge them, and they do challenge to help them grow. The qualities of a good student are they think out side of the box, they use the information in several settings, and they are not only consumers but producers. A professional learning environment is where both the studnets and the teacher are focused on learning and they use the best way possible to learn.

  52. I agree with connorr. Everyone is a consumer but i think that is part of the problem. We have grown up in a society that makes you be a consumer in your most vital learning years. I think we need to make the process more half-and-half so we can become a nation of great producers and consumers.

  53. A producer of information is someone who thinks of his or her information usually for themselves, while a consumer of information takes what someone else has thought of and uses it themselves.
I think a good teacher is someone helps the students learn, doesn’t force them onto it. One teacher of mine described his job as not a teacher, but a learning assistant. A teacher can’t make you learn things; they can only make you regurgitate it come test day. A good teacher should be a learning assistant and help you learn and nudge you along, helping you want to learn it.
A good student should never ever do the bare minimum required to pass the class, or please their parents. A good student would always try to do there, best and not settle with anything less.
A good class should have the students and teacher synergizing so everyone can have a good time learning the subject(s). Also when everybody in the classroom can get along so that the students enjoy the class, and the teacher enjoys having the kids, the class can get a lot more done.
Professional learning environment’s are where the whole class can get along and not bicker, or fuss, and treat things in an adult matter. This would mean overall treating everyone and everything with respect, to create a professional learning environment for everybody in the class.

  54. To be a producer of information you have to be a consumer of information also. You have to know what you are talking about to learn more about it and produce what you would like. The producers can't just use other people's ideas they have to create new ones. Like famous inventors and scientists you have think differently then normal. A consumer of information takes in as much information as possible. These people do not invent things, they go with the flow of their society. These people graduate from collage with a normal degree to get a normal job from 9-5 in an office.
Good teachers are those teachers people love that can procuce information to their class so they can easily understand and consume it. They produce information in a way everyone can understand and that you, as a student can produce something themselves.
Good students are those students that get involved in their school and in the class. These students can consume information from their teachers and produce for projects or a class conversation. These students get good grades and are thought of highly by the teachers.
A good class needs good students. They need to be able to produce information in blogs and class discussions to make it run smoothly. A good class uses the technology available to them during and not during class. Each student should bring something different to their class this is what makes the class unique. A unique class is special, they do not just go with the flow. They teach themselves and share these thoughts with others.
To me a professional learning environment does not always have to consist of the newest technologies or best teachers, all these things do not mean anything if you can not learn. We come to school to learn, we take tests to get into the rights classes for us, but the right class won't do anything for you if you can not learn. A professional classroom is a place where you can learn efficiently with limited distractions. A classroom is a place of learning, producing, and consuming information.

  55. 1. I think that a producer of information is someone who knows certain things about a topic and can tell someone about it and give their perspective on it. A consumer is a person who is willing to find out peoples different perspectives on a certain topic or reason and uses the ideas to create their own perspective and information for others around them.
    2. Qualities of good teachers are very important to anyone the know or teach. Teachers should be determined to bring out the best in every student and have them know that they believe in them and know that they can get through anything. Also teachers should let students have some of the freedoms and responsibilities that adults have because it shows them that they have trust and that they can use it for their advantage to succeed in the class. Good students should come prepared for the class and the responsibilities that come along with it. They should be willing to learn and want to voice their opinion so others can find out their personality. A good class should participate in class projects willingly and be able to listen and appreciate eachothers opinions and beliefs. They should give eachother respect and look at everyone as equals.

  56. I think that producers of information are pretty much messengers. They relay information to consumers of information, or receivers. Producers of information are typically people that talk often, and consumers of information must be good listeners. However, I agree with Janie in that there aren’t really specific producers and consumers of information- everyone is both. You can’t be a producer of information without being a consumer; otherwise you’d have no source of information. Most consumers are also producers, too- they often become the messenger after they have learned something new.
To be a good teacher, you also have to be both a producer and consumer of information- you receive or learn information and deliver it to your students. You must be able to work well with students when they need help, and be able to explain things simply. You also have to have a very good understanding of the material that you’re teaching. The qualities of a good student are very much the same; you have to be a good listener and a good speaker, work well with others and by yourself, and understand what you’re learning. If you don’t understand, however, you need to have the ability to go to the teacher for help and not be afraid to ask questions.
A professional learning environment makes me think somewhat of a Socratic seminar. Everyone has to give others a chance to talk, but must also put your own word in. You have to be assertive enough to get a chance to speak, but be respectful to others. I think a professional learning environment has to be somewhere that everyone both asks and answers questions, have friendly arguments or debates, and, of course, learn. A professional learning environment must also have both producers and consumers of information. This means that a good learning environment could simply be a class with a good teacher and good students. That’s why I think that all of these questions are interlocked.

  58. In my mind, to be a producer of information, one must think in a different way. These are the people who think outside the box and challenge the way society looks at an issue. They often become the world’s next greatest thinkers, scientists, and philosophers. Often times, we are producers of information by simply sharing our ideas and opinions with others exposing more people to different viewpoints. On the other hand, a consumer of information is one who reacts to the information a producer has produced. These people take in all the information they can and form their own viewpoints about it. Many people are both consumers and producers of information, just like Edmond L. said.
Many qualities define the ideal teacher, student, and class. A wonderful teacher truly wants his/her students to succeed and will do anything to help them. This often meaning being available for assistance and questions. An ideal teacher is also accepting and understanding of students’ struggles and failures; however, he/she turns these moments of struggle into ones of learning. The ideal student is one who advocates for himself/herself. When he/she is struggling, they ask for help instead of blowing past it. These students also are supportive and accepting of other’s ideas and opinions, while forming their own. Lastly, a good class is most of all respectful to each other and to the teacher. Without respect, class discussions would evolve into shouting matches, and class would not run smoothly. By having respect for everyone, a class can accomplish great things, have insightful discussions, and produce meaningful work. All of these elements are imperative for the overall success of the teacher, student, and class as a whole.
A professional learning environment is an environment where learning is taken seriously. This is not a place to goof off in, but where learning is first priority. It takes the occupant’s attitudes to make a learning environment a professional one.

  59. A producer of information would be like a teacher because they produce the information and relay it to students who consume it (learn it).

The quality of a good teacher is someone who is not self-centered and who cares about the success of their students and their well-being. A good teacher is also someone who challenges students to achieve their highest potential.

Good students are people who are willing to learn and open minded.

A good class is a place where people can speak different points of view without being ridiculed by others, and who also respect substitute teachers.

A professional learning environment is similar to a good class, where there is a respectful exchange of ideas and knowledge, where people’s cultural, racial, and religious differences are respected and their thoughts and ideas are encouraged. This could be in a academic situation, or a meeting in a work place, or any kind of gathering where people are trying to learn.

  60. To be a producer of information is to be somebody that comes up with the information or in other words is providing it. It could be a school project, an email, or even an autobiography. A consumer of information is when somebody is receiving information from another source like a newspaper. When you are a consumer you are taking in, so you would have to be doing something to receive it like reading, listening, or watching.
I think that the qualities of a good teacher are that they are kind, patient, understanding, and fun. These are some of the qualities because if you didn’t have these you and your class would be boring and nobody would want to be around you. I think that there are enough teachers that have had their “cheerios peed in” in the world. Don’t you? A good student is someone that is respectful, eager to learn, and fun to be around. If you weren’t these you would be no fun to have in class and you are probably there for the wrong reasons. The class. All the kids who dreaded waking up so early and went to school because their parents made them go to listen to their boring, mean teacher. (Just kidding) A good class should be respectful to the teacher and attentive so the teacher (A.K.A. MRS. SMITH) doesn’t get pissed off. A class should also have fun and learn at the same time. The classes I have the best time in are the ones with a good class clown, some smart kids, a troublemaker, and a lot of nice, awesome kids.
A professional learning environment is probably some place that has all the materials you need to learn and is a place that you can work well and concentrate in. I don’t know probably a library, study, or some other good place would probably work well.

  61. I think that a producer of information is someone who thinks outside the box and thinks about things from all different perspectives. A producer of information discovers or makes facts known. A consumer of information could be anyone, because they are using people’s ideas and coming up with different and more ideas.
Good students are dedicated, conscientious and hard working students who care about their work. They are respectful and helpful to teachers and fellow classmates. These kids know what needs to be done and do it (no slacking off). One of the qualities of good teachers is that they have high expectations of their students. They respect them and their opinions and are able to be helpful if someone needs it. A class is good when they work well together listening and sharing their ideas. They also need to be considerate of one another.
The professional learning environment is one where everyone can have different ideas and opinions. This is where everyone is comfortable around each other. The people there want to be there and don’t feel forced into the situation.

  62. I totally agree with allieb! We cannot produce information without first consuming it. Therefore consumer and producer cannot be defines separately. A scientist cannot reach and publish a conclusion without collecting information before, during and after experiments. This logic applies to journalists, filmmakers and politicians as well. Google and textbooks merely contain pictures and paragraphs. It only becomes information when digested by the consumer. Furthermore a single source of information can be perceived in varied ways depending on the consumer.

For me, a good class, student and teacher rely on one another. I don't believe that even the best of teachers can be great without good students. Students will not perform for a bad teacher. And a good class has to have both good students and good teachers. So I would say that a good class is defined by those who create it. If the teacher and students have similar good qualities: charisma, commitment, and responsibility, the class will function very smoothly.

To define a professional learning environment, I feel only one word is necessary. The word is respect. When everyone in a learning environment has respect for the others in the class, the classroom itself and themselves, a professional learning environment is automatically established. I think that respect can be used to summarize many of the previous comments as well as my own.

  63. To be a producer of information means that you create information and a consumer of information means that you consume information and use it. There are several qualities of good teachers, one is that they help their students understand things if they don’t get it the first time. Another good quality that good teachers possess is that they help their students stay on top of their work. Qualities of good students are that they stay on top of work and ask for help if they need it. Also they pay attention in class and do homework when its assigned. Qualities of a good class are that they respect each other and do their work. A professional learning community is a group of people that learn.

  64. Personally, I don’t think that one person is either a producer of information or a consumer of information. I believe that we are all quite a bit of both. When I think of producers of information I think of scientists and historians and people that are out there gaining knowledge about the unknown to share with the world. Then I think of teachers and the people around us who may not necessarily produce information, but they share it, sometimes without even knowing it. We teach each other things every day, and on the flip side, we learn things from each other every day. I don’t think you can be one (producer or consumer) without the other simply because of how humans interact with each other. It’s like a chain reaction: researchers find the information, teachers learn the information from that research, students learn the information from teachers, then students go home and tell their younger siblings and parents about what they learned, and it goes on and on. To consume information would be to first gather it and know it but then somewhere along the line, that same information is used and shared.

The best teachers are those that can understand the students. This is helpful in many ways because with that understanding they know how to communicate with students, they know how to make a class productive but at the same time not boring with too much work, they can develop a foundation of trust and respect within the classroom, and they know how to be fair. I’ve usually found that with any of these things missing, the teacher more frustrating than anything, and in turn I can’t be as good a student as I would want to be.

What makes a good student is someone who is inspired and enthusiastic. That’s the first thing on my list because when I’m being taught things that interest me, I feel so much more excited about the class and the work (even if it’s hard), which means I’m more likely to put the effort into doing the work. But that’s not to say that just because someone doesn’t like a subject they are a bad student, as long as they pull through and put the effort in anyway. Effort is another important thing. I know so many kids who are intelligent as heck, and yet, they are failing classes because they just don’t try. It’s so disappointing to see because the potential is clearly there, they are just missing the inspiration. Another thing that inspiration helps with is participation, and participation is very essential in discussions and debates, especially in an English class where everyone has different thoughts and opinions. A good student also has to be respectful towards other students, the teacher, and the classroom. In my opinion, a smart brain doesn’t stand for much next to bad character.

A good class can be very simple: a class that works together. Everybody there comes from different backgrounds and different thoughts and when people are collaborative it enhances the learning for everyone. It helps with perspective and thinking outside the box; skills that aren’t easily learned by yourself. A classroom full of people who work well together has such a better atmosphere than classrooms full of quiet awkwardness.

A professional learning environment… I don’t think there’s such thing. The great thing about learning is that it can take place anywhere and everywhere, and there are no limits. If someone really wants to learn then that can take place anywhere at any time. Sure, some places may be easier to learn than others, say a quiet library as opposed to a loud cafeteria, but all it takes is focus. I’m sure everyone has had a class at least once where there was no respect, the teacher wasn’t very good, and no one really cared – but I’ve found that it’s not impossible to tune out all of that and open up the textbook and get down to business. Of course this kind of environment is not ideal for learning, but I do not think that learning has to take place in a “professional” environment.

  65. A producer whether for goods or education is one who provides and brings forth to give others necessary components for their success. On the other hand a consumer is the one that receives the components.
First, in order for a teacher to be a good producer of information I think they need to be fun and passionate about what they teach. A good teacher will believe in their class to be all they can be. They must be supportive when we cannot reach that goal yet. In order to keep a students attention they must be fun and work with each students learning type. Next, for students to get the most of the information and be successful consumers they must pay attention and simply want to learn. In order to even allow learning I think you must have an open mind. Last, to combine the two to make a class I think they must get along. Everyone must be respectful of each other and each side must make sacrifices, like the students will pay attention if the teachers are patient.
A professional learning environment can be anywhere. In my eyes it is just as professional as ever as long as the information provided/consumed is relevant. People enveloped in this environment must be willing to learn and help those around them as well. Everyone must be respectful to each other.

A good teacher is someone who encourages learning and the student, not forcing learning
A good student is someone who learns and interacts with the class and the material
A good class is a group of people who accept knew ideas and don’t judge others

  68. I agree with nathaniels2013 in that a professional learning environment can be fun. In fact, I feel a strict environment takes away from a professional environment because students cannot be as free to voice their opinions in such settings. Yet, I believe a professional learning environment requires a bit more than “fun.” It must also have the materials you need to succeed, such as pencils, paper, and (in Ms. Smith’s class) lab top computers. It must be free of distractions that take away from a student’s learning experience. It must be challenging to keep students engaged and it must, above all things, honor the meaning of respect. Only then will this environment truly nurture student learning.

  69. I disagree with kalien2013 in that a producer of information is one who discovers new information. I, however, feel that a producer of information more accurately provides information for the consumer. This information could be new, but I find that even new information is based on previous information. One must first be a consumer before they can be a producer. For example, a science teacher becomes a producer of information when he or she passes scientific knowledge to his or her students. This scientific knowledge is probably not their own new discovery, but the teacher is still acting as a producer just the same.

    ReplyDelete
  70. 1. Information is exchanged between those who produce it and those who consume it. Information producers are those who send out data for other people’s benefit. This can be done through books, papers, as well as through speeches and conversations. This data can be important facts, such as medical information or scientific principles, but this information can also be a unique way of looking at the world. Students can be information producers by sharing their ideas in class presentations and by teaching each other how to be successful.
Information consumers are those who learn from the knowledge information producers have to offer. What good is knowledge when not shared? As students, we spend a good deal of our time as information consumers, learning from our teachers, parents, and technology. We need this information to build a better tomorrow.

    2. Through my years of schooling, I have met many great teachers and great students. I have also been fortunate enough to have experienced a number of great classes. From my experience, I have found that each contributes to the success of the others. I find great teachers to be those who are very dedicated to their job. Great teachers are also willing to help students overcome their limitations. They try to teach their students how to overcome their personal barriers and key into their unique talents. They take the time to consider all of their student’s needs. Another trait of a great teacher is to teach their students how to solve problems. They do not just deal out a group of random facts and instruct their students to repeat it back. They believe in asking questions such as “why” and “how”. They keep their classes interesting and engaging. In addition, great teachers remember we are all human, and try to be open-minded and understanding.
Great students do not have to be the smartest kids in the class. They just have to be dedicated to the learning process. Students who blow off learning ignore the benefits of great teachers and great classes. They do not understand that learning is important. Great students are self-motivated, work hard, participate in class, and help fellow students. They do their best to fully understand their teacher’s lessons and are not afraid to ask questions when they do not. Great students do not goof off in class and are respectful to their teachers. They are honest and understand the value of education.
A great class is one that is meaningful and interesting. It must be challenging in order to keep students entertained. Yet, it must not become so incredibly difficult that it becomes the one class all students dread. It must also be open. Students need to know that their opinions will be listened to and respected if they are to share all that they have to offer. This respect must flow between fellow students and teachers, for a class cannot be great without great teachers or great students. The class must also teach students relevant information and it must prepare them for life outside the classroom.

    3. Great classes cannot exist without the presence of a professional learning community. To me, a professional learning community is one free of distractions and rude behaviors that take away the chance for students to be their best. A professional learning community does not allow cheating or endless memorization, which deprives students of the chance to think. A professional learning community is open to all students and their opinions. It is seen as a “safe zone” where students do not have to fear being themselves in a respectful manner. It must also give students the tools students need to learn: papers, pencils, and useful information. It must be nurturing, not crushing, and open to ideas. It must also teach that true learning does not end with As and Bs, but goes beyond the letter grade. It must be a place for students to explore their potential.

  71. I agree with melissam2013. I think that the producer provides new information, even if it is only new to the consumer.

For example, I think that the poducer of information and a consumer of information are very similar to a producer of goods and a consumer of goods. The producer generates a good and the consumer recieves it. A producer in the science world takes solar energy and creates chemical energy. A consumer comes along and eats the producer gaining from it. Both the producer and the consumer are very important of the circle of life.

A "good" teacher is willing to teach and be taught. they should be willing to be both the producer and the consumer. They should be willing to hear and respec the views and opinions of others. A good teacher should love students, teaching and thier subject(s). The students are more likely to love and learn a subject if the teacher enjoys teaching it.

Likewise, a "good" student should be a prodcer and a consumer. They should be willing; willing to learn, listen, be taught and share. Basically, to participate.

A "good" class should be all that and more.

  72. The difference of being a producer of information versus a consumer of information is the amount of information known and not known between the two people or things. Consider India V. USA. we think that people in india live in huts and everything is made out of sand. Meanwhile they think we all live in giant houses and have nice cars and hot spouses. The difference of knowledge could be just someone gossiping about who did what or it could be a whole different lifestyle people are thinking that everyone lives.

A good teacher can teach anybody. It doesn't matter who they are they can help them learn one way or another. Teachers who only use one way to teach aren't teaching anything. Some kids need other ways or options to be taught. A good student is someone who can take something and learn from it. It doesn't matter what it is or how much information they got but at least they got something out of it. A good class will take there ideas and share them with everyone so that they can gain knowledge as well. Whether it be a question on the homework or an opening in a socratic seminar, they can use everything they have learned from those opportunities.

A professional learning environment is somewhere or somehow you learn best. Some people can only work best with other people to talk to or just have to have some noise. others enjoy a nice and relaxed environment where they can think to themselves about what they are working on. They don't have to share it. Some are just in the middle where they like to work together but have a hard time really focusing on something if they aren't alone.

  73. A producer of information is someone that goes out in the world and finds things out, then shares it. A consumer could sit at a computer and look it up. Good teachers are caring, nice, but still keep a strict set of rules. They always make sure the learning is fun, and no one is left behind. Good students always come to class prepared. They understand the assignment before they start working on it. If they have a question, they ask as soon as they can. A good class is nice to each other, supports everyone, and offers help when they see someone that needs it. Professional learning environments do not have anything inappropriate or distracting. This includes too loud music, commotion in the classroom or in the hall outside the classroom, etc.

  74. When you are a producer of information, you are the circulator of that information and are there for responsible for what tat information does, or causes. When you are the consumer of information, you are trusting the circulator of the information that what they are saying is true, and you are therefore still liable for that information because if you are also spreading that information, and it is false, the consumers you are feeding information to will not know that you are not the prime producer.

A good teacher can provide information about there own subject in an easy to learn way that is understandable, and teaches us skills that will help us deal with life in the process. Good students are on time, pay attention, take good notes, is willing to learn and excited to learn, and can process information quickly and efficiently. A good class is a student body and an instructor that can work well together and teach eachother how to be.

A professional learning environment is a place that is quiet, efficient, with limited distractions, professionl people, and where people can work well together.

  77. Though Katie makes a great point, I believe that you can be both a consumer and a producer of information. If you take in knowledge and facts, you can then produce that information to someone else. Also, someone could be a consumer of information on one subject, and produce information about another.

    ReplyDelete
  78. A producer has information that he/she accumulated from either their minds, or from another source, then shares that information with other people. A consumer of information listens to producers and then retains that knowledge in their brains. A consumer could also be a producer if they shared knowledge they gathered from a producer with another person. Likewise, a producer could also be a consumer. I believe every person is a consumer at least at one point in their life, and, if they choose, have the potential to be a producer. Everyone collects knowledge, because at some point in their life, they have listened to someone, or bought something, or took in something. It is their choice whether they want to share that or not.
In my opinion, a good teacher is someone who prepares their students for real life, respects his/her class, and makes class enjoyable for students. If a teacher respects a student, I believe that in turn, that student will respect the teacher. Also, if a class is boring, I find it hard to take in the lesson the teacher is communicating. When the class is fun and I learn what I need to learn, I like the class better. Also, school is not exactly like real life so teachers should prepare their students for the real world.
A good student is someone who listens well, and who isn’t a “shallow” thinker. If a student is a deep thinker and pays attention to what the teacher is saying, I believe they will learn better. A good class would be a group of students who have the qualities listed above.
A professional learning environment could be basically anywhere. In my opinion, the only thing you need for a learning environment is good, relevant information, good students, and a good teacher. My thought is that you can learn pretty much anywhere if you have the right resources.

  81. I think producers of information and consumers of information are different in some ways and similar in others. Producers of information gather information and learn they also gain an understanding for the subject. Consumers just sort of take in the knowledge and don’t really take the time to learn and understand it. Producers also provide the knowledge where as consumers read it somewhere or get it from a different source.
I think there are a lot of good qualities a teacher should have. They must be respectful, have a passion for the subject they teach. They need to have a fun way for the kids to learn the information and not just memorize it. The teacher needs to be patient and caring and always willing to help when help is needed. It helps both the teacher and student if the teacher makes an effort to get to know the students on personal bases. A good student defiantly has to be respectful, kind, and appreciative. The students need to be willing to learn which means they need to open their minds. Try to learn the information instead of memorizing it. If you have a question you need to ask it because there are no stupid questions in life.
I think a professional learning environment is somewhere where the teacher treats the kids like adults and has trust in them. Also the students need to be respectful and they need to act mature. You have to be able to concentrate and get good work done.

  82. A person can be a producer or a consumer of information. When a person produces information it is usually by himself and for himself but then shares it with the world. A consumer of information is someone that takes information and uses it to his advantage. When a produce puts out information it is fair game for any consumers who want to use it.
