Macbeth Act 5

  1. The part in Macbeth that said that there was a moving forest was macduff, or just the people that Macduff has recruted to fight or be on his side with?

  2. During Macbeth's reign, he was very oppresive, and strict. It is a good possiblity that many people did not like him. This would lead me to think that many people made the forest "move" because of their hate of Macbeth. Since Macduff is anti-Macbeth it would make sense for these anti-Macbeth civilians to also fight on Macduff's side. No one really wants to fight with Macbeth because of his oppresion. He has not made many friends just enemies.

  3. the forrest moved because they cut parts of it down and carried it as they marched as camouflage. it was the entire army that carried the forrest and made it "move"

  4. I though it was kind of funny when they cut down the trees for camouflage and it seemed like it was moving. This was unnerving to Macbeth because it seemed impossible when he was talking with the witches.

  5. i agree, and then how Macduff was not born from a women, made me think that they were pretty cleaver about how they worded things, because they seemed immposible at first, but none of it was really impossible to happen...

  6. I agree with Kylie that it was weird how it all played out with the witches prophecies. I found it almost like the witches told Macbeth what was going to happen. For example, when the witches told Macbeth that he could not be defeated by one born of a woman, it made it obvious that he would be defeated by someone who wasn't. They way the prophecies were said it seemed to indicate that those things would happen. I have one question. Our class was wondering why the apparitions were children (the second and third ones) and Ms. Smith said that we would find out in Act V. I didn't quite get why they were children. I figured out that the bloody head represents Macbeth's head when Macduff presents Macbeth's head after he is killed, but did the children represent Young Siward getting killed? Does anyone else have any thoughts about this?

  7. Meredith, I share in your confusion. I am also having a difficult time figuring out why the apparitions were young children. I think that your connection to the death of Young Siward was a good one and it could possibly be one of the reasons.

  8. I'm not sure that Macduff was actually a part of the "moving forest." I do know that his men has cut down the tree limbs and were using them as camoflouge as they moved towards Macbeth's castle. I do not know why though that Macduff would not be with them. I'm assuming he was, but as I said before, I'm not one-hundred- percent sure.

  9. I think the moving forest idea was interesting but i was wondering if it was just ironic that that happened, or if Macduff knew about the witches prophecy, and did it to scare Macbeth.
