Lee, the conflict of man vs. society is revealed when Cates tries to defend his reputation after teaching the theory of evolution. The townspeople challenge his authority by holding a trial which causes conflicts between opposing sides, which eventually breaks bonds within society.

These two guys really don't like eachother, they argue every little detail and can never reach common ground. This kind of fight is great for this play because it adds drama and keeps the audience awake.
